Sparks of Hope are grassroots organisations that embody the change The Elders want to see in the world. In 2018 The Elders chose to honour the 100th anniversary of their founder, Nelson Mandela, by celebrating 100 Sparks of Hope as part of their #WalkTogether movement.
The Elders is an international non-governmental organisation of public figures who were brought together by Nelson Mandela in 2007. They use their independence, collective experience and influence to work for peace, justice and human rights worldwide.
In 2018, as a continuation of the creative work we’d been doing for The Elders over the previous year, The Elders asked us to create a unique book that would embody everything they are fighting for around the world and be presented as a gift to hundreds of political leaders, peace activists and human rights advocates from around the world.
We art directed and managed the design and production of this book. Our creative concept took inspiration from the #WalkTogether campaign art, and brought together 100 inspirational global projects into one cohesive style.
The 220 page book captures the #WalkTogether movement, but also acted as a launch pad for their new campaign ‘100 Ideas for a Freer, Fairer World’.
On the 24th September 2018, at the UN General Assembly’s Nelson Mandela Peace Summit in New York, Graça Machel spoke about the 100 Sparks of Hope to world leaders, where she proudly presented this book.
On behalf of The Elders, I have the honour of gifting this assembly with an inspiring publication featuring these ‘Sparks of Hope”.
